Programme Monitoring & Implementation Unit, Punjab Education Sector Reform Programme, Government of the Punjab has issued the official Notification letter on 13th July, 2020 in connection with additional demand of free textbooks for academic session 2020-21.

As you are aware that provision of Free Textbooks to all school-level students has proved very fruitful to attract more children into the public schooling system. However, the sustainability of this initiative requires very efficient and responsible handling on the part of education managers so that the public resources are efficiently utilized.
PMIU-PESRP has completed the annual transportation of free textbooks to tehsils warehouses in Punjab. These free textbooks were delivered to all districts accordingly to their requirements as reflected in SIS enrollment data.
After this activity, additional demand of free textbooks has been received in this office from some of the districts. PMIU is indeed interested in provision of additional demand but before placing additional demand of books following are few things are all requested to keep in mind.
i). Check the physical inventory of free textbooks status lying at various tehsil warehouses (TWH) of your district before seeking further supplies from PMIU. If the shortages may be met from any other TWH of your district, prefer that option.
ii). In the presence of surplus stock, the additional demand of books is to be reassessed by CEO (DEA) concerned reflected in SIS with books provided.
iii). Another important thing is the retrieval of surplus books lying in the schools. In this connection, your MEAs would be of extreme help to you. Do guide them in this regard, and get the surplus books back to TWHs.
iv). It is pertinent to mention here that, as conveyed by PCTB, syllabus of all subjects from Class Kachi-V is going to be changed from the next academic session 2020-21. Therefore, any left-over stock of free textbooks of Class Kachi-V at tehsil warehouse(s) will become redundant by the end of this academic session.
In view of the above, you are requested to please send realistic and rationalized additional demand of free textbooks. If any, to proceed further in the matter, an early response in this regard is solicited.
