The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, Islamabad has issued the official notification on 18th January 2024 in connection with PTA increased new SIM activation period of 8 hours to 7 days. The PTA has amended the SOPs of SIM sale and activation from Wednesday, 24th January 2024.
As per the new notification issued by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, it has been increased the buffer between new SIM sale sessions from 8 hours to 7 days. The PTA has amended the SOP of SIM sale and activation through biometric verification.
New Mobile SIM Activation Possible After 7 Days PTA Notification 2024
It is order to safeguard consumers’ interest against issuance of illegal SIMS, an 8-hour check between successive successful sessions is currently in place at NADRA’s end. With a view to further enhance its efficacy, it has been decided by the Authority that the buffer between successive successful New SIM Sale sessions will be increased from 8 hours to 7 days. In this regard, the SoP Clause 5(j) has been amended as below:-

Following timelines shall be observed for SIM activation per CNIC after successful biometric verification against different categories across all operators through Customer Service Centers, Franchisees, Registered Retailers & Temporary Outlets. NADRA shall incorporate the check in their system accordingly:

- New SIM Sale – after 7 x days
- CCO, Duplicate SIM and Mobile Number Portability (MNP) – after 8 hours.
In view of above, is to inform that the aforementioned change shall be implemented with effect from 24th January 2024 at 0000 hours.
