Security Measures during Annual Examination of Grade-8 2020

Government of the Punjab School Education Department has issued the official Notification letter on 22nd January, 2020 in connection with enhanced security measures during annual examination of Grade-8 2020 held under the Punjab Examination Commission (PEC).

The annual exam of Grade-8 is scheduled to be held throughout Punjab from 4th February to 13th February, 2020 under the Punjab examination Commission (PEC). This exam will be undertaken by more than 1 million students throughout the province.

The conduct of this exam is a colossal undertaking which involves activation of almost 6000 exam centers, deployment of 60,000 supervisory staff and commuting 1 million students and their parents for twelve (06) days.

Punjab Examination Commission and School Education Deportment has finalized all arrangements to undertake the examination. In this regard, the importance of provision of adequate security arrangements cannot be over-sighted.

In anticipation of huge rush of people at exam centers, it is extremely crucial that proactive security measures are adopted to ensure the conduct of exam In a safe environment. These measures may include:·

(i). Imposition of Section 144 around exam centers;

(ii). Deployment of security personnel/police guards at vulnerable points;

(iii). Surveillance and patrolling around exam centers;

(iv). Provision of escort where necessary.awing to a specific threat;

(v). Erection of barriers at sensitive zones;

(vi). Ensuring that Closed Circuit Television (CGTVs) installed in exam centers are functional with data recording/ backup;

(vii). Inspection of exam centers prior to exam and aiding district authorities to control vandalism Inside exam centers and detain unscrupulous elements in the vicinity of exam centers.

(viii). Exam centers and students are viewed as soft targets, therefore, immediate dispersal of students after exam and avoiding crowding outside exam centers is crucial.

It is important to inform here that mobile/cell phones are strictly prohibited in exam centers therefore special emphasis needs to be placed to check use of electronic devices by students and staff.

In light of the aforesaid, it is requested that necessary directions may be issued to police and other low enforcement agencies for ensuring maximum security measures both preventively and proactively during the upcoming exam. Your cooperation in this regard is extremely vital for ensuring smooth conduct of exam in a sate environment.
