Teaching of Holy Quran As Compulsory in Punjab Schools

The Teaching of Holy Quran as compulsory subject in Punjab Schools has been officially issued on 30th December 2022 by the Directorate of Public Instruction (EE) Punjab, Lahore. All the Public and Private schools will follow the policy of Holy Quran Teaching.

The subject “Teaching of the Holy Quran” has been introduced as compulsory subject in all Public & Private Schools since 2018. The Punjab Curriculum & Text Book Board (PCTB) has also issued the scheme of studies regarding teaching of Holy Quran. Now this subject is compulsory for all level of classes i.e. Class-1 to Class-12 in Primary, Elementary, High and Higher Secondary level Schools, under the Act, 2018 Amended in 2021.

Some necessary directions and guidelines regarding teaching of “the Holy Quran” have been circulated in the field time to time to ensure implementation in true spirit. It is the responsibility of all Head of institutions, supervisory staff and District Education Authorities to get implement the School Education Department policies in letter & spirit and further to ensure that regular classes/ period of compulsory subject “Teaching of the Holy Quran” are being observed as per time table in all the schools (Public & Private) under their domain/jurisdiction.

The Divisional Directors and Addl. Directors (SE / EE) are also requested to monitor the teaching and learning process of the subject “Teaching of the Holy Quran” in the schools throughout to the Division and reports on monthly basis may be submitted to this Directorate on regular basis till the 5th of every month.
